The development process of the SM100MT-3 asphalt milling machine, or 'cold planer', has completed its debugging and stress testing phase. At the Chongwen product testing site near Shantui's headquarters in Jining, China, the SM100MT-3 was given an overload test, to determine its maximum capabilities. The machine was tested by operating in a variety of conditions, and examined after milling at depths of 50mm, 100mm, 150mm, and 200mm. At each examination everything was operating optimally.

The SM100MT-3 is being custom designed by Shantui's R&D Center according to customer demand for low-cost machines that can be used for highways, airports, and other resurfacing applications. The machine is features a milling width of 1000mm, maximum depth of 300mm, and fully hydraulic 4-wheel drive. As for the mechanics of the machine, the milling device utilizes a belt drive, a two-piston raising/lowering system, and an automatic leveling system. Soon, the SM100MT-3 will be added to Shantui's expanding line of road machinery.
